1880 Merlin Portable Steam Engine

Portable steam engines were used in agriculture to power threshing machines, saw mills and other belt-driven machinery. This engine, manufactured in France, was acquired by Henry Ford for his museum at Dearborn, Michigan. Unlike most portable engines, the Merlin's boiler is jacketed in brass and is of the double T design. Specifications: bore 7 in., stroke 11 in., 18 hp. Accession no. 1990L03 |
