John Domenjoz, former Bleriot test pilot and instructor and world-wide barnstormer, arrived at Old Orchard Beach, Maine apparently to test the possibility of sail power for aircraft. Although the glider was towed to an altitude of 300 ft. by an automobile, the sails gave no propulsive power. Tests and analysis have proved that sail power is an aerodynamic impossibility. We probably will never know if Domenjozs intent was pure carnival or serious. Specifications: span 41 ft.; length 29 ft.; weight 500-600 lbs. Accession no. 1984G04. |
