It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a Wings & Wheels Spectacular! On Saturday & Sunday July 28 & 29 the Owls Head Transportation Museum will host its 33rd Annual Transportation Spectacular & Aerobatic Air, Vintage Car & New England Corvette Meet. “This is one of our most anticipated shows of the year,” says Museum Director Charles Chiarchiaro, “because of the of the variety of things to see and do, this show is exciting for all ages and interests.”

Headlining the aerobatic portion of the show will be Rob Holland flying his Ultimate aerobatic biplane. Rob’s performance is comprised of high-intensity aerobatics that push the limit of both pilot and machine. Reaching speeds from less than zero (the plane is, in effect, flying backwards) to over 250 mph, Rob demonstrates unbelievable precision and control. Priding himself on safety first, Rob delivers a consistent, dynamic, and mesmerizing routine sure to leave you wondering, “How did he do that?!!”

Also performing will be Jim Parker flying his stunningly elegant aerobatic Salto Glider and his highly informative aerobatic how-to in his Super Decathlon.

New at this year's event is the New England All Corvette Meet. Corvette owners are invited to exhibit their 'vettes of any vintage! Never before have we hosted such a large collection of America's best known sports car. Corvette clubs from around the region are planning to attend this once-in-a-lifetime show. If your club would like to attend please contact the Museum via e-mail, or by phone (207) 594-4418.

We also expect flyovers by classic WWII aircraft such as Corsair, P-40 & P-51, weather permitting.

The Museum will auction off rides aboard its 1941 Stearman and 1933 Waco biplanes. Rides are good for one year and are transferable. The Stearman carries one passenger, the Waco carries two.

Rain or shine, visitors will have access to the Museum's indoor collection of dozens of antique cars and pioneer aeroplanes. The Museum will showcase its newest exhibit, "Tin Lizzie in Maine," a 100th anniversary tribute to the automobile that revolutionized and industry; celebrating its versatility and impact on the Pine Tree State. "This is one of our most ambitious exhibitions in the Museum's history," said curator Ethan Yankura. "We've recreated an authentic Maine garage-circa 1920-that houses our 1913 Model T as well as various items from the period. Also on display are several examples of how the Model T was adapted for a variety of uses from a rail car to an ice saw." A highlight for young and old is a cut-away Model T which has all the moving parts of a real Model T exposed for all to see.

In addition to the car and plane show, there will be active demonstrations of turn-of-the-century automobiles, free rides in a Model T Ford, and special children's activities. All-in-all, it's tons of fun for the whole family!

Antique Engine Displays.
