1928 Mercedes Roadster

On August 2, 1928 the chassis of this car was delivered to Carrosserie J. Saoutchik in Paris, where it had this spectacular torpedo roadster body fitted. After it was refused by the husband of the woman who ordered it, it was purchased by Frederick Henry Bedford, Jr., whose granddaughter loaned it to the Museum. The chassis and engine were designed by Ferdinand Porsche and was followed by the SS, SSK, SSKL and the famous cars bearing Porsche’s own name.

Specifications: Type S; engine six-cylinder, in-line, water-cooled; bore 98 mm., stroke 150 mm., displacement 6789 cc., 120 hp. normal, 180 hp. supercharged.
