This custom-bodied 1920 Town Car was built for Vincent Astor for use on his Sayville, Long Island, N.Y. estate. The Maxwell came about because its sponsor, Benjamin Briscoe, felt that David Dunbar Buicks automobile would not be successful. In 1903 Briscoe took up with Jonathan Maxwell, a former Olds engineer, and formed a new partnership to build cars. In 1926 the four-cylinder Maxwell became a Chrysler. The most famous Maxwell belonged to comedian Jack Benny. Specifications: Model 25; engine four-cylinder, in-line, water-cooled; bore 3 5/8 in., stroke 4-1/2 in., displacement 185.8 cu. in., 33.8 hp.
