1953 Whizzer Model 300S Sportsman
1953 Whizzer Model 300S Sportsman

One hundred miles to the gallon at speeds from 5 to 35 mph? Yes, that's what Whizzer claimed in their 1953/54 advertising. Beginning with the Model D bolt-on engine for bicycles in 1939, Whizzer sold its first complete motorbike just after World War II. The postwar model names are interesting: Pacemaker, Sportsman and Ambassador, of which the Sportsman would carry a 250 lb. person. The Museum's example is a Deluxe version, built by the Whizzer Motor Company in Pontiac, Michigan.

Specifications: Engine–air-cooled single cylinder. Power Rating–3 hp. Price New–$239.50 for the Deluxe Sportsman.

Accession no. 1994L07.
