The original design of this Phaeton dates to 1824 when one was built for King George IV of England. Ease of entry, fenders, a large dash affording protection from water and mud splashed up by the wheels and the hooves of the horses, and a rumble seat for a footman encouraged ladies with voluminous skirts to use this carriage. Thus it became known as a ladies' or park phaeton. The identity of the builder of this fine reproduction is unknown. Accession no. 1982G23.2 |
