ca. 1905 George IV Phaeton
ca. 1905 George IV Phaeton

The original design of this Phaeton dates to 1824 when one was built for King George IV of England. Ease of entry, fenders, a large dash affording protection from water and mud splashed up by the wheels and the hooves of the horses, and a rumble seat for a footman encouraged ladies with voluminous skirts to use this carriage. Thus it became known as a ladies' or park phaeton. The identity of the builder of this fine reproduction is unknown.

Accession no. 1982G23.2
