ca. 1900 Orient Ladies Bicycle
ca. 1900 Orient Ladies Bicycle

With its dropped top tube frame and equal sized wheels, this ladies model built by Waltham Mfg. Co., Boston, MA, is a typical example of bicycles of the day. The term safety bicycle had generally fallen from use by the turn of the 20th century, as they had become the dominant style worldwide. The Waltham company was known as a producer of fine timepieces, and the workmanship in this bicycle, down to the varnished wooden rims of its pneumatic tires, is superb.
