Very early in its history, FIAT recognized the importance of motor racing, participating vigorously until 1927. When a 200 hp FIAT won the American Grand Prix at Savannah, Georgia in 1907, a demand was created for this Italian car in the USA. As a result, a factory was built at Poughkeepsie, New York, where FIATs were built from 1910 until 1918. Specifications: Type 53A; engine four-cylinder, in-line, water-cooled; displacement 4.4 liters, 25/35 hp. Price new $3,600. Accession no. 1994G27.
