Encouraged by last year's success, the Mid-Coast Model Festival returns to the Owls Head Transportation Museum on March 24 and 25.

Last year's event exceeded all expectations says event coordinator Ethan Yankura. We are again planning for the museum to be full of modelersfrom all over the state and perhaps even farther.
Yankura said he expects a mix of both kit models as well as hand-made creations. There will be everything from antique model steam engines, to cars, planes, ships and trains. All sizes will be accommodated.
Exhibitors of all ages are welcome; space reservations are encouraged. There is no charge to exhibit. Children are invited to display their home-built models. A special exhibit area will be set aside for young people.
The family-oriented event will feature demonstrations and activities for young and

old. Among the activities for children under 18, the Southern Maine Scale Modelers will host a Make-and-Take model workshop beginning at 10:30 am. Each child will build a glue-less snap kit model. A variety of styles will be available. Instruction and all materials will be provided.
In addition to the South Maine Scale Modelers, the Kennebec Valley Model Aviators, Franklin County Aircraft Modelers and Southern Maine RC Helicopter Association will be demonstrating radio-controlled aircraft in the Museum's State of Maine wing throughout the weekend. The Kennebec Model Aviators will also have a flight simulator for the public to use.
Granite Leisure Time of Oakland will have a RC race car track set up indoors
for demonstrations. They will have a race car simulator available for public use.
Members of the Maine Antique Power Association (MAPA) and New England Model Engineering Society will display working steam and gas-powered model engines.
The Down East Shipmodelers Guild plan an impressive display of scale model schooners and other sail craft.
A complete list of exhibiting clubs is available on the Museum's website.
Being the height of mud season, all activities are planned for indoors. If weather and conditions permit, there may be some outdoor demonstrations. There will be space set aside for radio controlled cars on Runway 17, the Museum's outdoor exhibit area.
Admission is $12 for adults. Children under 18 get in free. For more information about the event, or to reserve exhibit space, contact Ethan Yankura at 594-4418 or ey@ohtm.org. More details about the event including a schedule of activities will also be posted on the Museum's website at www.owlshead.org. The Museum is located at 117 Museum Street, in Owls Head, Maine just two miles south of Rockland on Rte. 73.
